What would possibly improve the awesomeness that is the world of The Vampire Diaries? How about another hour to spend in it every week? That could be happening, according show creator Julie Plec (yes, the same one the stars are always tweeting at!). She said the new show would probably be called The Originals and focus on Klaus and a vampire from his past, Marcel, in New Orleans. As for the other originals, Elijah and Rebeckah, Julie says it’s still up in the air whether they would leave Mystic Falls with Klaus or not. This isn’t even a new idea – Julie says they’ve been considering the spinoff for two years now!

“It’s actually something that we’ve been talking about for two years, that we contemplated trying to get off its feet last year, but there was just too much work to do in too little time,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “So that gave us an opportunity this year to spend a lot more time putting it together — seeing if, obviously, our actors had any interest whatsoever continuing the life of these characters and if there was a story to tell. It all came together in a way that we finally felt would not detract from our most important baby right now, The Vampire Diaries, and would give us a chance to expand the universe with characters that we’ve had another year to get to know.”

So what we’re hearing is the woman who gave us the glory that is TVD has had two years to plan a spinoff all about an awesome side character from the show and promises fans that the new show won’t take away from TVD‘s greatness. Umm, why isn’t this happening yet? With any luck it will soon. If the show works out, the April 25 episode of The Vampire Diaries will introduce us to Marcel and the mystery in New Orleans that takes Klaus away.

What do you think of the idea, TVD fans? Would you watch The Originals? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
