The new ABC Family Original movie, Lovestruck: The Musical premieres TONIGHT at 8p.m. ET/PT. We’re so excited about the movie, which involves a pretty, well, complicated love story. What do we mean by complicated? There’s a daughter who is getting married, a mom who doesn’t quite approve and a little bit of magic that makes both mom and dad reverse-age 30 years to learn some valuable life lessons. Oh, and there’s an amazing soundtrack. Yeah, we’re pretty excited. We caught up to star Sara Paxton to talk about the movie. Check out our exclusive Q&A with her below.
BOP&TB: Tell us about Lovestruck! How did you get involved with the movie?
Drew Seeley: Well I got involved in the typical way, I went and auditioned and I remember singing a Bruno Mars song when I auditioned and they really liked it and I had a good feeling about it and the lady who produced it, Deborah Martin Chase actually did the Cheetah Girls movies and that was the very first music video I ever did was for Cheetah Girls 2 so she knew me from way back in the day, but we shot it about a year and a half ago in Pittsburg and my character is Young Bryan. I guess the basic story is Jane Seymour’s character finds this magic elixir and makers her 30-40 years younger and turns into Chelsea Kane and she kind of goes back to, it’s kind of a confusing story to tell, and maybe you know the plot already, but anyway I’m the younger version of a fifty year old man who’s tricked into taking this potion and becoming younger. It was a fun part to play because my mind is still like a 50-year-old guy but I’m like, wow I’m in this 25-year-old’s body and I’m going to have a great time and you know cause problems, it was a fun thing to play.
BOP&TB: So which Bruno Mars song did you sing?
Drew Seeley: I sang Billionaire, the Travie McCoy duet her did.
BOP&TB: Cool! So how do you pick the songs to sing at auditions?
Drew Seeley: I don’t know, I just really like Bruno Mars. I think vocally I have a similar tone to him so his songs are always good picks for me. I didn’t really think about it too much I just though, oh that would be a fun song to sing in this audition so I went for it. It all just depends on what the project is, sometimes it’s more musical theater and sometimes it’s more pop.
BOP&TB: What was it like working with the cast?
Drew Seeley: So much fun! They’re all so great! And you know since we shot across the country in a city none of us have ever been to and we were there for two months so we became really close, we’re like family at this point. Chelsea is just awesome, I’m actually getting married at the end of next month, actually the end of this month and she’s even coming to the wedding!
