Cameron Boyce, 17, is one of the most positive people you’ll ever meet.
Growing up, Cameron was a natural actor. He landed two movie roles — Eagle Eye and Grown Ups — by the time he was 10. But it was in fourth grade that he made one of the boldest decisions of his life.
“I would always hear, ‘That’s the kid from that movie.’ I hated it,†he recalls. “On my first day of school in fourth grade, I’m walking around and some 12th-grade kid grabs the handle on my backpack. The next thing I know, I said, ‘Don’t touch me,’ and swatted his hand away. No one ever bothered me again.â€
The Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything star has this way with letting things roll off him. “You can’t let stuff like that bother you,†he smiles with a big toothy grin. “The easiest targets for bullies are the ones who let it get under their skin. If you love who you are and don’t let people bother you, it’s not easy for them to mess with you, because you don’t care.â€
Cameron’s passion for dance outshines any negativity, even the harsh comments he receives for his proper dance attire. “You have to put your hair up, and you have to wear your ballet shoes and shorts, so that the teacher can see your legs,†the 17-year-old Descendants actor explains. When you’ve been dancing almost as long as you could walk, wearing ballet slippers and tights becomes so natural, that Cameron has never been the type to worry about what judgmental people might say.
But if anything does happen to get under Cameron’s skin, he knows he can rely on his best friend, and former Jessie costar, Karan Brar. “I think of Karan as family,†Cameron reveals.
“He’s always over, spends the night whenever and calls me up when I’m in a time of need. If you take the time to pick up the phone and actually talk to someone, it means a lot. It sounds stupid, but nowadays people don’t call, ever.â€
When it comes down to it, making the extra effort is important to Cameron, in every aspect of his life. Whether acting on set, dancing with his crew or hanging out with friends, Cameron spills he “just wants to be remembered as a good guy, because it’s what’s most important.â€
