We sat down and had breakfast with our fave singing duo, and Vine stars, Jack and Jack, and they spilled every last detail about the fateful day Jack Johnson met Jack Gilinsky, and they forever became known as Jack and Jack.
TigerBeat: So, tell us everything!
Jack Johnson: I was five years old and Jack G. was four years old. It was the first day of kindergarten, but I think we might have seen each other once before that.
Jack Gilinsky: We lived in the same neighborhood with a bunch of kids, so all of our parents knew each other. And they kind of grouped us together, so we could learn each others’ names before the first day.
Jack Johnson: Of course. So, he looked kind of familiar, but I wasn’t sure. Then I saw we were wearing the same shirt. It wasn’t the same color, but the same style and type of shirt. You had red and I had blue?
Jack Gilinsky: Ya, ya, ya!
Jack Johnson: It was a Gap shirt that had “Gap” written across the front, and these stripes going down the side. You know how kindergarteners become friends over the most minimal stuff? So, we were just like “Oh he has the same shirt, I’m going to go talk to him.†It’s that easy back in kindergarten. So then, I said, “What’s your name?†And he said, “Jack.†Oh, there’s another reason to be friends, we’re both named Jack. So yeah, that’s how we first originally met and became friends. The entire friendship was sparked from that first day of kindergarten.
Jack Gilinsky:Â Then you know, five days a week we were in school and in the same classes together, until the third grade. That was the first time we were separated.
Jack Johnson: Yeah, and we’re still trying to find a picture from that first day in kindergarten, because I know there is one out there.
TigerBeat: Aww! Well, as soon as you guys find it, send a copy our way. We’re all about throw-back pics and vids!
