Jacob Whitesides dropped by TigerBeat, giving us the inside scoop on his highly-anticipated upcoming album, “Why!”
And we just had to share everything the 18-year-old singer/songwriter spilled.
“‘Why’ was probably the best time I’ve ever had in my life,” Jacob revealed. “It was a really short amount of time – which I was stressed about at first – but looking back at it now, it was really beneficial to the project, because it really pushed limits.”
“Most of the songs were inspired by right after my European tour, when I spent two weeks being away from home and my girlfriend at the time. There was a lot of happiness and sadness, and not a lot of in-between.”
“A lot of it was inspired by there, so coming back into the album-writing process was really beneficial to us and the project. We spent a couple of weeks in Connecticut, just talking about the vision for the album.”
“We didn’t do any writing or recording, just listening to a lot of the music that was inspiring us and talking about how to find the perfect balance between the stuff I was already doing, because the fans were loving it, and kind of mixing that with some newer influences from the pop side.”
“After that, it was easy breezy. We were writing six days a week, sometimes seven, from 9am to 1am. We would write the song, then the co-writer would leave, my producer and I (who I write every single song with) would sit there and record most of it in the same day.”
“So we were working really hard, but it was so much fun and it never felt stressful. We were just constantly motivated and inspired, so that was really amazing as well. I think it came out really awesome, in my opinion. I’m really happy with it.”
