Camila Cabello shocked the world when she left Fifth Harmony in December to pursue a solo career. In a new interview with Billboard, the 19-year-old singer opened up about her reasons for her departure, if she keeps in touch with her bandmates and plans for the future.

Camila struggled with her decision to leave the group, but knew it was the right thing to do:

“The easiest route would be to shut my mouth, sing the songs, wear the clothes and keep going, you know? I mean, [we were] at the peak of our career. It’s definitely not the safe option. I have it in my DNA. The way my mom raised me, it has always been: Don’t settle. Jump and hope you grow wings on the way down.”

Unfortunately, Camila has not been in touch with the group. She tried contacting them, but couldn’t say much else “because it was really intense and it’s hard for me to talk about. It makes me sad.”

Even though the past few months have been intense, Camila says she has nothing but love for Normani, Lauren, Ally Brooke and Dinah Jane. That’s our girl!
