We’ve got the inside scoop!
Jake Miller just announced his upcoming tour and we couldn’t be more excited! The tickets are all around $20, and he’ll be out on the road for nearly all of September and October.
We chatted with Jake and got the low-down on all things Back to the Start Tour, 2AM in LA, and so much more! He even let us in on a little secret — after the tour, he’s taking the entire crew on a surprise vacation cruise!
“It’s going to be the best show I’ve ever put on,” he told us.
How is this album different from the music you’ve released in the past?
This album is completely self-produced, with some help from my friends. I wrote every lyric and produced every beat from my bedroom, and that’s the first time I’ve ever done that. It’s the first time I’ve ever put out music without a record label. I had complete creative control in every stage of the process and I think you can definitely tell, when you listen to the tracks, that there’s something different there.
Was it difficult to produce an entire studio album?
It was definitely challenging because I was doing things I didn’t know how to do, things I’d never done before. I was on YouTube finding out how to play piano and how to make beats. But it was so much more rewarding. It was definitely the most fulfilling I’ve ever felt putting out music or an album before, knowing how much of myself I put into it.
Your fans literally took to the streets to promote your album all over the country. How does that make you feel?
It’s every artist’s dream come true. No matter what I’m going through, whether I just split ways with my record label, or I’m going through a breakup and am feeling sad, the only constant is the fans. They’re always there to promote the music or there to greet me in a new city and make me feel better. They’re always there, and that’s an incredible feeling. To have that in my life is really all I need.
What was your song writing process like with this album?
I wrote every single lyric for all ten tracks on this album. As far as writing though, it always just depends on what I’m going through that day. As I said, it’s always important to stay true to yourself. And the music that works best is the music people can feel when they listen to it. You have to make it from your soul. You can’t fake feelings when you’re writing songs, and anything you’re feeling, you just have to pour into the song. So that’s what I try to do. Days when I’m really upset about something or miss something or someone, those songs write themselves.
What can you tell us about your upcoming tour?
It’s called the Back to the Start Tour, which is the name of the last song on album. I wanted to, now that I’m independent, and doing everything my way, wanted to bring everything back to the way that it used to be. I’m playing smaller venues, selling not-too-expensive tickets, and I want everybody to come out and have a good time, and take things back to my roots. It’s going to be the best show I’ve ever put on.
Is there anywhere you’re especially excited to visit on tour?
It sounds cliché, but I have equally amount of fun in every city. It’s not really about where I am, but really just depends on the vibe that the crowd is giving me. as long as they’re showing up and passionate, it doesn’t matter to me if it’s packed with 10 thousand people or 10 people.
Besides the Back to the Start Tour, is there anything you’re really excited about?
The music video for “Palm Boulevard.” I just finished editing it last night. It was the first time I’ve ever edited a music video before. Like I said, I have complete hands-on control with these songs from start to finish, and I’m really happy with how it came out.
Do you have a long-term goal that you’re heading towards?
My main goal in life is to keep doing what I love, what makes me the most happy. If I get more fans, that’s awesome. If I can make a living off of hits, that’s awesome too. But most importantly, it makes me happy. I want to keep putting out music and keep touring for the rest of my life. Those are the two best things I could ever think of.
