You go, girl!
Anyone who knows anything about Nia Sioux, knows she’s a total girl power icon! And her latest project is no exception. After announcing her clothing line collaboration with Popular Poison last fall, the 16-year-old triple-threat — who originally got her start on reality TV series “Dance Moms” alongside some of our other fave stars (like Mackenzie Ziegler!) — just launched her spring line, and it’s beyond inspiring!
The oh-so-trendy tees feature artwork and sayings that are positive and empowering (like “More Self Love” “Good Vibes Only” and more), and you’ll want every single one of them! Keep scrolling to get the inside scoop on all things Nia: everything from her favorite piece in the collection to what being a role model means to her!
What was your inspiration behind the collection?
Nia: My inspiration behind the collection was to create a line that encourages people to not only express positivity through their actions, but also in the clothing that they wear. Each piece symbolizes both empowerment and positivity for girls while feeling stylish at the same time. I wanted girls to have the opportunity to wear what they believe in, and show it off to the world!
Do you have a favorite piece?
Nia: I love them all! I know it sounds very clichè but I really do. If I could pick a favorite, however, it would have to be the tee that says ‘More Self Love’. They say you can’t truly love someone else, until you love yourself, and it’s true! I feel if everyone loved themselves more, we would all be kinder to one another. Take care of YOU.
Is fashion always something you’ve been interested in? Did you ever think you’d be designing an entire line with a brand like Popular Poison?
Nia: Fashion has definitely been something that I have always been interested in. I think being a dancer has really influenced and fueled my love for fashion. In dance, you have so many elaborate costumes that I kind of was born into loving fashion. I never thought I would be designing my own line with Popular Poison, I am so grateful to have this opportunity to express my thoughts and opinions creatively through a clothing line.
How do you want girls to feel when they’re wearing the collection?
Nia: When wearing my collection, I want girls to feel invincible. I want them to feel confident in their own skin and capabilities. I feel like girls and boys are constantly bullied and brought down for the way they look or the color of their skin, leaving them feeling insecure and self conscious. In reality, each person should feel beautiful and confident because there is only one YOU, so own it! I want my collection to showcase this empowerment and positivity, which is why there are so many tee’s with different sayings.
What does being a role model mean to you?
Nia: For me, being a role model means more than just doing things for yourself that others will look up to. It’s about doing things for others that will make you proud of yourself for making a difference. This reason alone is why I came out with the clothing line. I wanted to make this line not for me, but for all of the other girls that have been in my position before and want to feel confident and empowered. I feel like this clothing line is my attempt to pave the way for girls to “fix each other’s crowns” instead of tearing them down.
