During a behind-the-scenes of “Havana: The Movie” clip, the 20-year-old solo singer and former Fifth Harmony member shared a touching story with fans about her choice to go by her middle name, ‘Camila,’ rather than her given name. Camila began by explaining that the entire concept of the telenovela-inspired mini movie, which stars two different versions of the Cuban cutie, came from her own two alter-egos.
According to Camila, both characters are over exaggerated versions of herself — the shy Karla and the confident Camila — and that they showcase the inspiring journey she took to becoming who she is today. We love this feel-good message!
“My family always called me Camila. When I came to school in the United States, I was really, really shy and teachers started calling me Karla. In my life, I push myself to do things that make me uncomfortable, and that’s how I started dancing and that’s how I found myself in Camila and in performance, and music.”
