Liddy Clark Releases Debut EP ‘Testing the Waters’ And Promises More New Music to Come

Liddy Clark‘s original music is finally here!

After teasing the release for her debut EP, “Testing the Waters,” back in June and constantly blowing us away with her stunning song covers, the 20-year-old singer is finally letting the world hear her super-inspiring, ultra-original project!

To celebrate the release, we talked with the country-pop singer-songwriter about everything from her favorite song off the EP to what it’s like to gather inspiration. Keep scrolling to check out our conversation with Liddy and be sure to check out “Testing the Waters”!

For those of our readers who don’t know, could you introduce yourself and tell us about your music?
Liddy: I’m Liddy Clark, I’m 20-years-old and I do country pop-ish singer-songwriter stuff. The main thing that I really want to get across in my music is just to really enjoy your life, not caring about other people’s expectations on you.

Tell us about your journey so far and how you got to the point of wanting to release this debut EP.
Liddy: Around the time I was 13/14 I got my first guitar and I started learning how to write with [my vocal coach] and had my first experience writing a song as a co-writer, then went to writing by myself. The whole journey has been coming to terms with who I am as a person, the kind of music I want to release and the kind of message I want to spread. I think I’ve pretty much cultivated exactly who I want to be at this point.

How would you personally describe the sound of this EP, should fans expect a similar continuation of the singles you’ve put out before or a new sound and direction?
Liddy: I think with the singles, they show different facets of my personality, and I think the EP does a really good job of showing all the different sides of me. I wrote ‘Testing the Waters,’ I named it that, because I just wanted to put little drops of each side of my personality, so people could get a little taste of exactly who I am as an artist.

Do you think it was easy for you to get inspired and find material to write about?
Liddy: Oh yeah, it’s always really easy to find material. I always pull from personal inspiration or from a friend venting to me or, honestly, I’ll watch a TV show and be like, ‘Yeah, I really feel what that character is feeling right now, I feel like I can put that in a song.’ There’s a lot of different sources for inspiration and you’ll definitely see some of those in the EP and more EPs to come.

Would you say you have a particular song that means the most to you?
Liddy: I would say ‘Painted By Numbers.’ I’ve always been very insecure and always cared about what other people think about me, so writing that song was really a catharsis for me. I wanted to help talk people through the process of learning to be happy in your own way and not having to care what other people think.

Is there anything that surprised you about the work that went into making this EP?
Liddy: It takes a lot more work than you’d think. We’ve recorded this EP so many times in the past two years and we’re just now releasing it, so we had to get the right sound both musically and vocally, and I think we finally found it. I’m really proud of the work that we’re putting out and I really hope it resonates with everybody out there.

What else can we expect from you in the upcoming year?
Liddy: We just recorded a lot of videos actually, acoustic little videos, so we’re probably going to be releasing those soon, and I actually have a lot more music that I haven’t released, so hopefully there will be more music coming out in the very near future! I have a song that should be coming out, too, that’s not really related to any of the EP songs, but you’ll know it when you hear it! And I’d love to get to know each and every one of my fans on social media, it’s definitely one of my favorite ways to keep connected with people!
