The power of positivity!
In honor of National Bully Prevention Month, we caught up with 19-year-old Radio Disney host Cameron McLeod, who opened up about his experience overcoming bullying and shared his best advice for anyone struggling with unnecessary negativity. After initially getting his start on social media, Cameron now wants his fans and followers to know that they’re not alone, and that they shouldn’t let anyone from stopping them from being themselves.
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Keep scrolling to catch the exclusive interview with the “About You” singer:
Have you ever been picked on in school or for being a part of social media?
Cameron: Absolutely. When I began my journey on social media I was in middle school, and no one understood what it meant to be an active social media influencer. People would both verbal and cyber bully me because I “did what everyone else was afraid of doing.” Taking selfies, making funny videos, and being super energetic wasn’t normal for a regular middle school student. This didn’t stop me from doing what I love to do.
What did you do to overcome it?
Cameron: Luckily, I wasn’t alone. I may have had some haters piling up on social media, but I knew I needed to keep my focus on the positive comments. I kept creating more content and spreading it across the world, proving the haters wrong. Don’t let them stop you!
What advice would give you others who may be going through similar challenges?
Cameron: Putting yourself on social media shouldn’t be a bad thing. We are so lucky to have some amazing resources online to help people around the world who are dealing with bullying. This is a serious issue, so take it seriously. Pacer.org is my favorite website to visit when I need it, and it’s also there for you! Use your platform to spread love and positivity, that’s what we really need in this world.
In case you missed it, Cameron recently spilled on what it’s like hosting his very own Radio Disney show!
