The moments in my life that have shaped who I am as a person and what I’m doing today career-wise have actually been the times that I didn’t get the part, when I didn’t book a job after putting so much work into it.
In order to succeed in this business, you have to put your whole entire heart into one thing at a time, and visualize and imagine seeing yourself fully heading in that direction. You have to commit to it fully — or else what’s the point?
But because of that mindset, it’s even more devastating when you get cut from a job that you really wanted. Thankfully, those times that I haven’t booked the job have honestly been the best learning experiences for me looking back, and the times that I’ve grown the most.
Because of those moments, I’ve learned to quickly refocus my energy and my future goals, to keep going forward and working on other skills that I love just as much (if not more), that I had maybe forgotten about because I was so wrapped up in heading in one specific direction at the time.
So I’m really grateful for all the times I haven’t been given a role and all the times I’ve been told “no” because they shaped who I am today. And most of all, I learned so much from them: learned how to persevere when things don’t go as planned, learned not to give up when one door closes, but instead learned to let it redirect me in a different (and sometimes better!) direction, because there are so many other doors that will open for you if you just believe in yourself and go with whatever is meant to be!
