Halle Bailey isn’t paying attention to the negativity.

In case you missed it, the 19-year-old Chloe x Halle singer and “Grown-ish” actor was tapped to play Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” earlier last month. And though most fans took to social media to share in the excitement of the announcement, there were others who reacted with racist comments and nasty remarks.

But the talented teen isn’t letting the haters get her down. While walking the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood party last night (alongside her big sister Chloe Bailey), Halle got real about the dream-come-true role:

“I feel like I’m dreaming…I’m just grateful. I don’t pay attention to the negativity; I just feel like this role is something bigger than me. And it’s going to be beautiful. I’m just so excited to be a part of it,” she gushed.

In case you missed it, you’ll never guess which Disney Channel star just auditioned to play Ariel’s love interest, Prince Eric!
