It sounds like the “Are You Afraid of the Dark” set was just as spooky IRL as it is on TV!
During a recent interview, Miya Cech (who plays Akiko in the Nickelodeon limited series) told us just how spooky the set really could get, but not without the help of her co-stars! The 12-year-old actress revealed that resident horror film expert Jeremy Ray Taylor (who plays Graham) embraced the creepiness of it all — and took advantage of the eerie on-set props to pull off a handful of hilarious pranks on Miya.
Don’t worry, though! It was all in good fun. One prank, in particular, played with her fear of bugs:
“There was a rubber spider and we were doing an interview and… he pulls it out without me noticing and slaps it on my hand and I was like ‘What is this?!’ and I fling it off and he was like ‘It was rubber.’”
Who’s the biggest prankster on set?
Miya: Jeremy and Tamara, but mostly Jeremy…whenever I was doing interviews or just sitting down, he’d like to like scare us, come up from behind and… put his hands on our shoulders [so I’d jump].
Have you ever thought about getting back at him?
Miya: There were times when pranks were pulled on [all of] us and I feel like that was payback [enough] because Jeremy and I had to do something together and while doing it, we were talking…going over the script, and this giant thing just comes straight down from the ceiling…[its] a giant fuzzy spider…We’re sitting in director’s chairs. So, we both jump and our director’s chairs almost fall!
