Meet Victoria Anthony!
At just 14 years old, the budding singer-songwriter has already performed with her idol Pink in front of 20,000 people (we repeat, TWENTY. THOUSAND. PEOPLE.), released real and raw music from the heart, and so much more. Her latest single (which just dropped earlier this month) may be called “Sleep,” but this girl is seriously living the dream!
And the best part? We recently caught up with Victoria to talk all things music: from how she’s captured the power of positivity through her lyrics, to what fans can expect from her upcoming album, and everything in between.
“You’re unique in yourself, so don’t try and be like other people. You can obviously take inspiration, but it’s so important to recognize what your strengths are, and how you can contribute as a unique person.”
Is there an overarching message behind your music? What do you hope fans feel when they listen to it?
Victoria: Well, what I really want to convey in my music is my new perspective on life, especially in this album. I think what I’ve realized in creating the album is how fragile life is and how important it is that we take in every second and are just grateful for every moment of it. I think that if I could have that realization, and then spread that through my music would be really cool.
A lot of your music is driven by positivity. How much of that is due to the difficult times the world is currently facing?
Victoria: I’m just grateful that the songs I wrote before COVID-19 were near the more positive direction so when I’m feeling down, when I accidentally listen to my music for mixes or listen while I’m performing, it’s really nice that they have positive messages. I get to, almost, be inspired by myself. It’s pretty fun!
Is there anything you can tease about your upcoming album coming out this fall?
Victoria: The album in general is just about loving life, and being grateful for being alive…kind of like “Sleep,” but there are more things relevant to my own life because I really like to write about my own experiences. Obviously, I don’t really know that much about love — I’m 14, almost 15 — so I like to write about things that are really relevant to my life, and things that mean a lot to me.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received while pursuing your passion, and what message would you give to other young girls who are striving to achieve their dreams?
Victoria: A couple pieces of advice that I’ve really enjoyed were: try and be unique, and don’t focus on trying to be someone else. You’re unique in yourself, so don’t try and be like other people. You can obviously take inspiration, but it’s so important to recognize what your strengths are, and how you can contribute as a unique person. And then also, just to be grateful for every second of it. There are always going to be difficult times along the way, but just be grateful that you’re on this journey because it’s all leading to something beautiful.
