Halloween makeup 101 class is officially in session!
If you’re anything like us, then you spend 99% of your time on TikTok watching jaw-droppingly unreal makeup transformations. And with spooky season upon us, it’s the perfect time to try your hand at a SFX look that’ll send shivers down any onlookers spine.
Not sure where to start? We caught up with the queen of clown makeup Avani Gregg, who shared her top three tips for beginners!
“Even if you think you’re messing up…I promise you’ll probably like the outcome!”
1. “First, don’t go based off of copying other looks. When you see a look and you make it your own, that’s what I like to do. Give it a backstory! If I get an idea and I relate to it, I paint it on my face.”
2. “Also, just go at it! Don’t plan it all out. That’s too much pressure. If you’re just starting, start painting on your face and just see what happens…don’t get so into details. Scary makeup is can just be bloody and gore-y. You don’t have to make everything perfect, unless you’re matching a character.”
3. “If you don’t like it, you’ll fix it. It’s makeup, you can wipe it off. If you don’t like it at the end, you can add some stuff to it. That’s usually how mine ends up going! That’s why some of my looks look insanely crazy…there’s no detail or anything. It’s just me, going at it, painting on my face.”
Avani’s not the only creator we’re loving this Halloween season! Here are 9 makeup artists you need to follow for spooky inspo.
