The announcement and unveiling of Mattel’s top-secret plan to introduce three figures into the mix with the original Barbie doll – tall, petite and curvy – is a huge shift in the Generation Z-influenced consciousness.

Just last year, Barbie saw a transformation with a range of skin colors and hair textures, and this latest announcement is not only in line with how our cultural beauty ideals have changed, but in our promotion of self-love and acceptance, too.

From a young age, girls are inundated with cultural cues, and now that influence will start in a healthy and powerful way in childhood. From Zendaya and Gigi Hadid to Misty Copeland, there’s no shortage of strong and individual female role models when it comes to self expression and appearance.

Best of all, these young women are setting a bold trend for the teens and girls around them! #WhoRunTheWorld
